About RTAC and RAN

USAID’s Research Technical Assistance Center (RTAC) is comprised of academic and non-academic institutions in the U.S., Africa, Asia, and Latin America. NORC at University of Chicago is the lead institution on RTAC working together with other 10 partners including Makerere University ResilientAfrica Network (RAN). RTAC supports USAID’s missions, bureaus, and independent offices to make evidence-based decisions. Serving as a strategic resource to USAID, RTAC leverages the scientific expertise of academic researchers within RTAC’s partner pool to provide timely technical assistance. RTAC has a wide network of university researchers comprised of graduate and post-doctoral students, lecturers, and faculty affiliated belonging to over 427 organizations around the world

One of RTAC’s strategic tasks is to establish a researcher partner pool and maintain it so as to effectively respond to USAID research and Technical assistance requests. One of RAN’s core roles is to support this task. RAN is the largest network of universities in sub-Saharan Africa for advancement of resilience of communities to recurrent shocks and stresses by leveraging science and technology to innovate transformative solutions. Led by Makerere University in Uganda, RAN brings together 20 universities across 13 countries in Africa. Details about RAN can be found here
